PURPOSE:To obtain a long-life and high-safety battery by adding metal oxide with oxygen reducing catalysis to a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:Metal oxide with oxygen reducing catalysis is added into a metal hydride electrode. Oxygen absorbing reaction is therefore accelerated and the oxidizing reaction of hydrogen occluded alloy is restrained, resulting in a longer life of a battery. In such a systems, out of two functions, hydrogen occlusion and oxygen absorbing reaction which are conventionally borne with hydrogen occluded alloy for the metal hydride electrode, the former is separated to give somewhat burden to the metal oxide with oxygen reducing catalysis, so that the oxidation of hydrogen occluded alloy is restrained equivalent thereto. As a result, an extremely low oxidation speed of hydrogen occluded alloy occurs in oxygen absorbing reaction to greatly help restrain battery inner pressure and extend battery life. It is thus possible to obtain a long-life and high-safety battery. |
