1,149,128. Exercising device. E. E. HOLKESVICK. 20 Feb., 1967, No. 8053/67. Heading A6M. An exercising device comprises two elongated shafts positioned side by side in spacedapart relationship to provide two sets of opposed end portions each shaft having a smooth outer surface and being of a length to receive several turns of rope therearound; means adjacent one set of end portions for retaining several turns of rope on the shaft and at the other end portions, means for guiding the rope from one shaft to the other, and means connected to the device for attaching it to a support. Figure 1 illustrates one form of the device which comprises a U-shaped tubular member 12 with a smooth outer surface, around which is wrapped a rope 54. In use, the member 12 may be cooled by passing through it a stream of water, said water passing in via the free end 22, and out via the free end 20, the flow rate being controlled 'by the valve member 46. The hook-like member 36 fastens the device to a support, and the user exercises by pulling the rope 54 through the device against the frictional drag between the rope and tubular member. In Figure 3 (not shown) a modified non water-cooled exercising device, which is suited to home use, is illustrated.
