NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (X is O or S; Y and Z are Cl or Br; R is 1-4C alkyl; R<1> is methyl, methoxy, H, Cl or Br). EXAMPLE:1-(2-Furylmethyl)-3-chloro-4-(1-chloroethyl)-2-pyrrolidinone. USE:A herbicide. PREPARATION:A 2,2-dihalogenoacetamide derivative expressed by formula II is subjected to cyclizing reaction in the presence of a suitable catalyst (e.g. ferrous chloride or cuprous chloride) in a solvent (e.g. diethylene glycol dimethyl ether or DMSO), according to the reaction formula to afford the objective compound expressed by formula I.
