摘要 PURPOSE:To make it easy to deform the lower side of a steering wheel in the forward direction so as to allow an air bag to uniformly absorb impact forces by setting the ratio of rigidity of the steering wheel in the direction in which riders enter in such a manner that the rigidity of the steering wheel is weaker at the lower half than at the upper half. CONSTITUTION:A wheel ring 7A mounted and supported on a wheel hub 3 via the spokes 4 to 6 of a steering wheel 1 at the center portion of the steering wheel 1 is divided into upper and lower hemispherical members 21A, 22A. The upper member 21A is formed into a long cross section with vertical length L1 greater than transverse length L2 and the lower member 22A is formed into a wide cross section with longitudinal length L3 greater than transverse length L4 and the upper and lower members 21A, 22A are connected together using the respective outer end portions 4a, 5a of the spokes 4, 5 as connectors. When the air bag being expanded pushes the steering wheel 1 the lower member 22A is deformed forward and air in the air bag is prevented from escaping upward, so that the air bag is capable of uniformly absorbing impact.
