<p>PURPOSE:To simplify the processing for changing over a coding system by incorporating the processing for identifying the nature of images into the processing for coding. CONSTITUTION:The signals separated to a brightness signal and two color difference signals in a color conversion section 103 are segmented in a prescribed block unit in a block segmenting section 104 and are stored into buffers 201, 301, 401. These signals are supplied via discrete cosine conversion sections 202, 302, 402 and quantization sections 203, 303, 403 to in-block estimation sections 204, 304, 404. The estimation as to whether the inside of the blocks is relatively flat or not is executed and the outputs of the respective in-block estimation sections 204, 304, 404 are supplied via control lines 240, 241, 340, 440, 441 to respective coefft. allotting sections 205, 305, 405 and respective block approximation coding sections 206, 306, 406, by which the kinds of coding are controlled. The need for independent processing stages or the circuits to be exclusively used is eliminated in this way and, therefore, the processing is simplified.</p> |
