PURPOSE:To produce diphenylbutane with single-stage reaction in high yield by reacting benzene with 1,3-butadiene in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a silica-alumina having a specific silica/alumina molar ratio. CONSTITUTION:Diphenylbutane is produced by reacting benzene with 1,3-butadiene in the presence of a silica-alumina catalyst having a silica/alumina molar ratio of 0.4-20 (especially 2-10). Since the catalyst can easily be separated from the reaction system after the reaction, the process can remarkably be simplified and the separated catalyst can be reused in the reaction. Diphenylbutane is useful as a solvent for pressure-sensitive copying paper, thermal medium oil or electrical insulation oil. |
