PURPOSE:To minimize the generation of excess sludge even when many contaminated components are contained in sewage to be treated by horizontally placing activated sludge beds formed of porous bodies in a contact aeration chamber. CONSTITUTION:Since circulating flow is in a vertical direction, the lower circulation rate of the flow into the activated sludge beds 7 is necessitated. The outside surfaces of the activated sludge beds 7 are thereby brought into contact with sewage 10 having a large quantity of dissolved oxygen, by which aerobic microorganisms are actively grown and propagated and the contaminated components are decomposed. The supply of the dissolved oxygen on the inside surface of the activated sludge beds 7 is little and anaerobic microorganisms grow and propagate thereon to decompose the polluting components. Further, large-sized microorganisms are generated on the outside surfaces and inside surfaces of the activated sludge beds 7 and capture and phagocytize the aged aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms to cause self-digestion. The purification of the sewage is thus possible without generating the excess sludge. The anaerobic microorganisms and aerobic microorganisms are made to exist at a high density in the activated sludge beds 7 in such a manner, by which the high- efficiency sewage treatment is executed.
|
