摘要 PURPOSE:To form a thin and smooth TiCN film of a red purple or copper color having high elegance by specifying the ratio of the numbers of carbon and nitrogen atoms in reactive gas in the stage of forming the thin TiCN film on the surface of an ornamental article by a plasma chemical deposition method. CONSTITUTION:An ornamental article 7 of a watch case, etc. is placed on a negative electrode 5 in a reaction chamber 1 and the inside of the reaction chamber is maintained under about 0.05Torr Ar atmosphere. The surface of said article is cleaned by Ar sputtering. Gaseous TiCl4 10 bubbled by gaseous nitrogen 8, gaseous hydrocarbon 9 such as methane, ethane or the like and gaseous H 11 is supplied into the reaction chamber. The relation 1%<=n/(n+n')<=12% is maintained between the number of C atom n and the number of N atom n' in the gaseous mixture in this stage and the thin film of TiCN of a red purple color or copper color having excellent elegance and >=0.1mum thickness satisfying the relation 60%<=L*<=100%, 2<=a*<=15, 2<=b*<=28 in the L*, a*, b* color space specified by JIS.Z.8105-2068 is obtd. by the glow discharge with an anode 6.
