PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for an installation space dedicated to a printer part, by setting the ink jet direction of an ink jet means in parallel to the direction of the minimum dimension of an ink jet unit. CONSTITUTION:An ink jet unit 14 comprises an ink tank 22 at a lower part, and an ink head 23 as an ink jet means connected to an upper part of the tank 22. The unit 14 is incorporated in a carriage 15 which has a reciprocating means. Assuming that the width of ink jet holes 23a of the ink head 23 is H and the dimensions of the unit 14 are A, B and C, the width H is set vertical, and the ink jet direction of the jet holes 23a is set in parallel to the direction of the minimum dimension C of the unit 14. This arrangement minimizes the thickness of the unit 14 incorporating the ink tank 22 and the ink head 23. |
