Panel comprises laminated structure and has a carrier panel (12), esp. of wood (substitute) which lies on the neutral axis (14) of the section. On both sides of the carrier panel (12) is a load bearing element (16), a further wooden panel (18) and a finishing layer of veneer (20). The modulus of elasticity of the element (16) is more than that of the carrier panel (12). All panels are bonded together with an epoxy adhesive. Load bearing elements (16) may be of metal or FRP. USE/ADVANTAGE - Large area despite a low cross-sectional area.
