Ca phosphate-contg., biocompatible layered bodies are comprised of a base body consisting predominantly of Ca orthophosphate and at least one outer layer which releases Ca ions, the Ca release of the outer layer being higher than that of the base material. Pref. the principal component of the outer layer is beta-Ca pyrophosphate or beta-tricalcium phosphate and the layer also contains a cpd. chosen from hydroxyapatite, Ca sulphate or Ca fluoride. The outer layer may have a multilayer construction, each of the layers having a higher Ca release than the base. The base body may also contain substances other than Ca orthophosphate which are either chemically bound or form a composite with at least one Ca orthophosphate phase. In an alternative embodiment, the base body made essentially of alpha-tricalcium phosphate and the outer layer is essentially of beta-Ca pyrophosphate. Pref. the vol. ratio of the outer layer to the base is not more than 1:5, esp. less than 1:10.
