The junction box of plastics material has slots in two parallel sides which taper towards the bottom. These slots have teeth (44) shaped to act as barbs to prevent an inserted cable (28) from moving outwards towards the slot opening (32). At a distance of a few millimeters from each side of a cable slot is a narrow slit (46) which allows the slot wall to deflect (42) when a cable (28) is pressed in, giving elasticity which assists in holding the cable in position. The box lid (52) also helps to retain the cables.
