PURPOSE:To obtain an adsorbent not changed in its initial capacity and excellent in durability and deterioration resistance by using molded activated carbon having not a too small pore size and containing pores having a relatively large pore size in a certain specific amount or more and having specific hardness. CONSTITUTION:20 steel balls wherein a specific surface area measured according to a liquid nitrogen S-BET method is 800-2500m<2>/g, the volume of pores of 35-70Angstrom measured from nitrogen adsorbing quantity at 77k according to a Cranston-incrie method is 0.05-0.2ml per 1ml of molded activated carbon, a particle size is 0.5-10mm and hardness is >>1mm diameter are put in a stainless steel pot (150ml) and a sample 1.00g is charged in the pot to be rotated at 120rpm for 15min to obtain activated carbon having a physical property wherein the wt.% of the sample on a 60 mesh screen with respect to the sample tested when the wt. of the sample treated on the 60 mesh screen is measured is 20% or more. This activated carbon is effective for a caster from the aspect of strength, initial capacity and gasoline deterioration capacity.
