摘要 <p>An object location system is disclosed which has particular application as a rangefinder for use in robotics. The system utilizes a laser (14) for outputting a beam and a camera (12) for monitoring the beam when reflected from objects. The laser (14) is moved by a motor and gearbox (18) so that the beam produced by the laser scans the desired area. The camera (12) is connected to a computer (30) which processes the image of the reflected beam and produces a first signal indicative of the angle of the beam from the laser and the second signal indicative of the angle at which the beam is detected. A lookup table is provided in the processing means for storing calculated range values relating to the field of view of the system so that the first and second signals can be fed into the lookup table to provide a range output value from the lookup table which will provide the range of an object.</p>
