Supported above the bottom of the vertical cylindrical silo casing is a conical cowl (16) which diverts material outwards towards an annular discharge chamber (3) between intermediate (21) and lower silo bottoms (9). Vertical ventilating tubes (8) connect the chamber to the upper part (18) of the silo and both bottoms have associated fluidising devices (10,11). Material travelling down the conical cowl falls into radial slots (2) round its base to fall into the discharge chamber with discharge assisted by the fluidising devices. The size of the radial slots can be adjusted by a slider (25) below the upper fluidising device (11).
