Disclosed is a liquid-crystalline bis-pyrimidinecyclohexane of general formula (I), in which R<1> and R<2> which may be the same or different, are for example a straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl and X<1> and X<2>, which may be the same or different, are H, F, Cl or CN, which is particularly suitable for use as a component in liquid-crystalline mixtures. In nematic and smectic liquid-crystalline mixtures, such compounds give low melting points and high-width phases.
