摘要

Dispersions of layer silicates (I), protective colloid (II) and aq. dispersant (III) for incorproation into water-thinnable coating compsns. (IV) are claimed; (II) is a polypropylene oxide with no hydrophobic end gps., an average of at least one OH gp./mol. and up to 40 wt.% -CH2CH2O- units as required. (IV) is claimed as such, together with the process of incorporation of (I) in the form of the above dispersions. (II) homopolymer pref. has mean mol. wt. 400-1000 (esp. pref. ca. 900), comprises unbranched units and has 2 OH gps./mol.; (III) is water only; dispersion comprises 1-10 wt.% (I), 0.3-15 wt.% (II) and 98.7-75 wt.% (III) and contains 0.3-2 pts.wt. (II) per pt. wt. (I). Coating compsns. contain (pref. metal) pigments and are used as base layer in a 2-coat base coat/clear coat paint system. Pref. (I) are synthetic Na/Mg- or Na/Mg/F/Li (V) layer silicates of the montmorillonite type; pref. pigment is Al in the form of lamellae.
