The invention provides a carrier-supported titanium catalyst component containing magnesium, aluminum, halogen and titanium as essential ingredients, said titanium catalyst component being obtainable by reacting: [I] a magnesium containing support obtainable by contacting a support (i) with a hydrocarbon group-containing organic magnesium compound in the liquid state (iic), then with a halogen-containing compound (iib) and then with an alcohol compound (iv), [IIa] an organic aluminum compound, and [III] a titanium compound in the liquid state. The invention also provides catalysts containing the above catalyst component for preparing ethylene polymer and processes for preparing ethylene polymers using the catalyst.
