A fuel injection device has a main injection piston (2) and a smaller-diameter pre-injection piston (1) which is arranged coaxially to and is actuated in an axial stroke movement by said main injection piston, the pre-injection piston (1) being held in contact with the main injection piston (2) by the action of one or more springs (3). Separate injection nozzles (14, 11) are provided for main injection and pre-injection, and the pre-injection piston (1) upon completion of pre-injection and after an injection pause supplies a portion of the main injection quantity. The pre-injection piston (1) slides over the connecting line (15) from its working chamber (9) to the intake- and overflow chamber (16) only during or upon completion of pre-injection. An electronically operated solenoid valve (17), is inserted into the connecting line and controls the start/finish of pre-injection supply. <IMAGE> |
