Disclosed is a thermal transfer dye donating material, which has, on a support, a dye donating layer containing a dye of a general formula (I): <IMAGE> (I) wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; R2 to R8 each represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a halogen atom, an acylamino group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a cyano group, an alkoxycarbonylamino group, an aminocarbonylamino group, a sulfonylamino group, a carbamoyl group, a sulfamoyl group or an acyl group; A represents <IMAGE> wherein R9 and R10, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group; X represents a nitrogen atom or <IMAGE> R11 representing a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group; Y represents a non-metallic atomic group necessary for forming a 5-membered to 7-membered ring; and R3 and R4 may optionally be bonded to each other to form a ring; and R6 and R9, and/or R9 and R10, and/or R7 and R10 may optionally be bonded to each other to form a ring. The transferred image from the material has an excellent light-fastness.
