In a basin or like plumbing fixture including a capacitive proximity sensor or primary antenna A, B, C, an earthed conductive coating is applied to the underside of the basin 14 so that the sensor is rendered insensitive to the water level in the basin and a secondary antenna 24 is attached to the forward, external wall of the basin so that the sensor is unaffected by casual passers-by.
