PURPOSE:To improve efficiency for preparing an index and to output the desired index by automatically preparing an index table only by designating items to be the index while inputting a document, and adding the index level information of items to be the index. CONSTITUTION:After the items to be the index are designated and temporarily stored while inputting the document, an index item retrieving means 5 retrieves the designated index items from the document, the pages are stored in an index table 7, and the index table 7 is prepared so as to prepare the index. On the other hand, when the index level 7 is designated by an index level designating means 3, the index level 7 is added to each index item in the index table 7. Then, the desired index is outputted by designating this index level 7, namely, by designating an output level. Thus, efficiency for preparing the index is improved, and the desired index is outputted. |
