PURPOSE:To obtain an amorphous carbon material, excellent in toughness such as fracture toughness value, etc., and useful as a substrate for magnetic disks by forming a structure in which atoms of molecules of a gas penetrated into crystal defects of an amorphous structure. CONSTITUTION:The aforementioned amorphous material is an amorphous carbon material in which atoms or molecules of a gas penetrate into crystal defects of an amorphous structure. N2, Ar, He, Ne, Kr, Xe, Rn, etc., are cited as the above-mentioned gas. The aforementioned amorphous carbon material is obtained by the following method. That is, a thermosetting resin capable of providing amorphous carbon after heat treatment is formed into a prescribed shape and the resultant formed product is then heat-treated at a prescribed temperature to afford a formed product of the amorphous carbon. A hot hydrostatic pressing treatment is applied to the above-mentioned formed product of the amorphous carbon at >=2000 deg.C and >=1000 atm according to a pressure increase preceding pattern in which pressure increase to a prescribed pressure is carried out and heating to a prescribed temperature is then performed. |
