PURPOSE:To obtain a sharp and good display picture element by forming a light intercepting membrane of stripe shape or matrix shape having the pitch of picture element or the pitch in proportion to the picture element pitch on the outgoing side of a high polymer dispersion liquid crystal panel. CONSTITUTION:A light converging optical system 11, high polymer dispersion liquid crystal panels 14a-14c, light intercepting plates 15a-15c having opening parts conformed with the opening parts of liquid crystal panel picture elements, and optical systems 12, 13a-13c introducing light from the light converging optical system 11 to the high polymer liquid crystal panels 14a-14c are provided, and transmitted light through the light intercepting plates 15a 15c are enlarged and projected. Consequently, rays of incident light between a source signal line and picture element electrodes are intercepted with light intercepting membranes formed on the light intercepting plates 15a-15c, namely black matrixes. Hereby, contrast can be enlarged, unnecessary part of display pictures are not displayed, and hence pictures of sharp and high quality can be displayed. |
