The installation includes a lightweight vehicle (2), for example an all-terrain vehicle with wide low-pressure tyres, weighing approximately 250 kg; the probe (13) for taking samples of the soil is mounted at the end of a bearing arm (18) pivoting about an axle (17) integral with the chassis of the vehicle (2); in addition, a compensator assembly (21), for example at least one wheel (24, 25) supported by an arm, is solidly attached to the chassis and capable of bearing on the ground during the sampling, so as to ensure stability of the vehicle. <IMAGE>
