<PICT:0987978/C1/1> Waste waters, containing solid particles, are treated with conventional flocculating, collecting and frothing agents and oxidizing gases in a two-stage process. The first stage is a beating action to produce complete oxidation followed by intense stirring with a gasiform medium which produces a highly subdivided dispersion of minute gas bubbles and minute solid particles which coalesce into a miscella and the sludge thus formed is removed from the surface. The sludge may be recirculated. Liquid under treatment is fed into stage I by nozzle 30 and overflows via channel section 32 into stage II of the apparatus, which is described in Specification 730,635; leaving for final separation in vessel 11. In stage I the bearing member 24 is used without liquid-tight packing of the spindle, air being sucked through inlet 47. Frothing agent is advantageously added by inlet 48 while the other conventional treatment materials are added prior to introduction of the water b pipe 30. <PICT:0987978/C1/2> |
