The invention relates to a composition for racetrack surfacing. The composition of the invention contains a synthetic polymer, a hydrocarbon-containing oil which is liquid between 4 and 32 DEG C, and a material, such as sand, in particle form. The synthetic polymer is advantageously an elastomer, on its own or in combination with a non-elastomeric polymer; or else it is generally a mixture of polymers which are soluble and dispersible in oil, which form, with the oil, a binder for the particles. The track composition easily forms a base, and the cushioning part does not form blocks or pack down (subside), but retains its granular quality, which can be raked even at track temperatures exceeding approximately 54 DEG C. The composition is not unfavourably affected by wet weather. Application in particular to producing racecourse (horseracing) tracks.
