In a disc brake comprising a disc 7 axially slidable on pins 8 projecting from a rotatable drum 2 and a pair of friction pads 9, 10 carried in a caliper 3, the pads are fitted in a common seating 4 on opposite sides of a slot 6 into which the disc penetrates. The pad 9 is secured in such a manner that it can be adjusted by a screw 11 in the seating whereas the pad 10 is operatively connected to a thrust mechanism comprising a control lever 20 rotating parallel to the plane of the disc. The rotation of the lever 20 causes the thrust means to advance the pad 10 towards the disc against the action of spring 13. The thrust means comprises a washer 15 integral with the lever 20 and a non- rotatable washer 14 both having three conical settings between which are disposed balls 16. Rotation of the lever 15 causes axial movement of the washer 14 to cause the head 12<SP>1</SP> of a spring-loaded pin 12 to abut the pad 10 and thereafter to advance it axially towards the disc. The washer 15 is prevented from axial movement by a thrust bearing 17 and a washer 18 held against an abutment 18<SP>1</SP> by a resilient ring 19 disposed in a groove 19<SP>1</SP>. The spring 13 loading the pin 12 acts between the washer 18 and a washer 22 secured to the end of the pin. In a modification the member 3 is formed with ribs. |
