In the manufacturing method, the first step is the pressing; with microporous metallic oxide, 40-90 wt.% such as fumed silica, precipitated silica, alumina, etc., and opacifier, 10-50 wt.% such as rutile, ilmenite, silicon carbide, iron oxide, manganese dioxide, etc., and fiber-like materials, 2-20 wt.% such as glass wool, rock wool, ceramic fiber, etc. And the pressure of pressing is 1-3 Kgf/cm2. The next step is the secondary pressing with 5-20 Kgf/ cm2, after the binder powders which are frit, glass powder, powder pigment, clay, etc. coats on this mixtures, and the amount of binder is 0.01-1.0 g/cm2. The high strength thermal insulator is produced by firing this pressed mixture at 200-900 deg.C.
