This method of measuring the level of an image signal, in which the said image signal is broken down in terms of time into a signal called useful image signal and into a signal called suppression signal, the said suppression signal including a line suppression signal itself including, among other things, a plateau called synchronisation plateau and a plateau called suppression plateau, essentially includes a measurement of suppression plateau level with respect to the synchronisation plateau level, and a comparison of the result of this measurement with a defined nominal value obtained for the nominal value of the peak-to-peak level of the image signal. <IMAGE>
