A device for protecting objects, in particular objets d'art, is disclosed. It comprises two resonant electric circuits (5, 7) which are substantially flat and arranged opposite each other, one on the object (1) to be protected and the other on an adjacent fixed wall element (3), said circuits being of the LRC type and coupled together to react in resonance when excited by a specific eigen frequency induced by an electromagnetic wave generator (9) located near the said object. A receiver device (11) is tuned with the said resonant circuits (5, 7) and is suitably adjusted to react to a variation in the coupling of these circuits, due for example to the circuits being moved with respect to each other, to generate a signal activating an appropriate alarm device (13).
