PURPOSE:To smoothly perform resetting to automatic speed change operation from manual speed select operation through a shift lever by supporting a lock plate, which is actuated by the shift lever rotated about the second shaft to connect/disconnect a swivel retainer to/from a stationary member, to the swivel retainer. CONSTITUTION:A lock plate 5, which is actuated by a shift lever 3 right/left rotated about a longitudinal shaft to connect/disconnect a swivel retainer 2 to/from a stationary member 1, is provided supported to the swivel retainer 2. Since right/left lug parts of the cross-shaped constituted lock plate 5 carry out a function as a guide means of movement along an I pattern of the shift lever 3, in the case of automatic transmission, and also a function as a lock means of the swivel retainer 2 in the case of manual speed select operation, compactness of a device is attained by providing the two functions in the single member. Since a shift device can be housed in a center console of a vehicle by relatively arranging the lock plate 5 and the stationary member 1, sufficient strength as a lock mechanism can be ensured with no necessity for considering appearance. |
