An optical sensor has an electro-optical transducer (W) and a lens body (L) which is ellipsoidal on the outer surface (A) remote from the transducer's light sensitive surface (I) and which has an ellipsoidal hollow surface (H) facing the light sensitive surface. The size and orientation w.r.t. the outer ellipsoidal surface of the hollow surface is determined depending on a characteristic corresp. to the dependency of the electrical optical signal of the electro-optical transducer on the angle of incidence of the light. USE/ADVANTAGE - Solar sensor for vehicle heating regulation. Enables incident light to be simply and economically evaluated by varying the lens geometry.
