A method makes silage in an airtight silo(1) by, as far as possible, extracting the gas arising in the first silo (1) from the fermentation process, by means of a gas pipe (12) leading to a second silo (1) or to a gas container. The gas is used to ensure the quality of the silage in the first and second silo, and its transfer is assisted by a pump (14) in the gas pipe. The gas container is formed by two covers fixed over the silo, and the gas is temporarily stored there while air is exhausted from the second silo prior to the introduction of the gas. USE/ADVANTAGE - The silage is effectively protected by a gas atmosphere, and less carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere.
