The surface of primary and/or secondary explosives is covered with a powdery, flame extinguishable antistatic and/or slip acting inert material by first homogeneously treating the explosive with a nonionic surfactant, liquid at room temp. and then contacting the resulting mixt. with the inert material and blending homogeneously. Primary explosives are pref. lead azide, lead trinitroresorcinate, silver azide, diazodinitrophenol and/or lead picrate. Secondary explosives are pref. nitrates, aromatic nitro cpds. and nitroamines. Nonionic surfactants include polyoxyalkylene ethers and glucoside. Inert material may be alkaline earth metal stearates, acetates, carbonates and chlorides, graphite, etc.. ADVANTAGE - Adherence of the inert material to the explosive is improved
