[Also in Division B3] In the manufacture of self-staking nuts, each having a flange 13 and spigot 10, the flange is deformed so as to partially shroud the spigot. This deformation may be produced by radially acting tools 24, Fig. 6 (not shown), which indent at 21, Fig. 4, the flat edges of a hexagonal flange. In another embodiment, Fig. 7, the flange 26 is deformed by pressing it through a tapered die orifice 27 by means of a punch 28. The finished nuts are secured into a plate 17, Fig. 1, by deforming the plate material into a groove 11 of the spigot, Fig. 2 (not shown). Specification 947,097 is referred to. |
