A three-dimensional object is modelled by curing superimposed layers in that a subsequent layer of initially liquid or powdered material corresponding to the shape of the object is cured by the action of light or the like on an already cured layer. To reduce any inaccuracies occurring during manufacture and to improve the dimensional accuracy of the object produced, the surface of the object is measured and the result of measurement is compared with predetermined object data and correction figures for the production of the object are found from the result of the comparison.
