The positioner for optical fibres (20) in parallel guide grooves (4) has a compression plunger moving down onto the optical fibres. The plunger (7) is of a guide type with a freely movable compression head (12). The transfer of a compression force between the plunger and head takes place at the surface centre of gravity of the head. Pref. the compression head is suspended from the plunger. USE/ADVANTAGE - For optical fibre welding, with precise and stress-free positioning.
