Rape seed shell removal - uses rollers to mill sorted and dried seeds followed by beating and sifting to detach shells from the kernels

Rape seeds are sorted to reject small sizes, and the H2O content is reduced by 0.6-2.0% by drying. The seeds are then milled between rollers, with a roller gap 0.2-0.4 times the mean seed size. The seeds are detached from the shells by a beating action through a pneumatic carrier system, followed by wind sifting if required. The shells are sifted from the kernels by electro separation. Pref. the processing assembly has a number of units, in sequence, with a seed bunker (1), weighing scales (2), a separator for ferrous metal (3), a sorting deck (4), a dryer (5), a rolling mill (6), a cyclone (7), a pneumatic sifter (8) and an electro separator (9). ADVANTAGE - The process gives rape seed kernels with a fraction of shells which is less than 5%, under operating conditions.
