In a pivotable window in which the sash is locked in the closed position by a semicircular cylindrical bar 9 rotatable about a horizontal axis to move the bar from an unlocking position in which it is wholly accommodated within a longitudinal recess 8 in one frame (e.g. the fixed frame) into a locking position (as shown) in which the bar 9 is partly accommodated in a recess 7, 8 in each adjacent frame member, each recess 8 occupied by the bar 9 in the unlocking position is formed with locating faces 10, of 30-degrees arc, matching the radius of the bar and terminates at a shoulder 11 and the bar has a longitudinal rib 14 to engage one or other shouder 11 in the locking and unlocking positions respectively and a sealing strip 13 is provided to form a stop against which the flat surface 15 of the bar contacts in the locking position of the bar, and the strip 13 can be prestressed by a lip 20 to exert pressure on the bar 9. A stop flange 28 may be provided for the face 15 to abut. The recess 7 may be lined with rubber or plastics material in a frame of metal or harder plastics than the lining. Single or double glazing may be mounted in the sash by removable glazing strips 23, Fig. 5 which has teeth 29 to be engaged by teeth 30 on tapered strip 28 which fixes sealing strips 31 against the glazing 21. The recess 6 in the sill of the main frame may be used to collect condensation water &c. from the window and which is drained away through tubes 17.</p> |
