<p>The invention relates to a high recognition ability infrared sensor for target acquisition and tracking. The infrared sensor according to the invention includes, in the cold plane of a cryostat, a matrix (1) which is responsive within a main spectral band and is organised into k stripes, and a strip (3) which is responsive within an ambiguity-removal spectral band, forming a stripe parallel to the stripes of the matrix.
