The controlled load-lifting method for a ship etc. uses parallel beams at the same height and of set length and cross-section, each being coupled at the ends to a hoist mechanism. The height of lift of a point on each beam is measured to obtain a signal separately controlling the respective hoist mechanism. The signal for each mechanism (6) is corrected by a value which is a function of the portion of the load resting on the respective beam (1) and of the distance between the height-of-lift point and a datum point on the beam. The datum points of the beam can be on a straight line.
