A driving circuit for driving one or more electroluminescent elements comprising a rectangular waveform generator for generating a rectangular waveform voltage of a fixed frequency, on the output of which generator an EL element and a coil are connected in series, which coil is designed to have a value of inductance greater than that exhibiting at its resonant condition. A predetermined approximately sinusoidal driving voltage preferrable for EL element can be applied only by adjusting the inductance of the coil, thereby the terminal voltage being raised even though the EL element is subjected to the change due to time duration. <IMAGE>
