An anaesthetic fluid vaporizing apparatus 18, comprises a bottom housing section 28 and a cover section 27 enclosing a fluid chamber 33 containing fluid to be vaporized, and a gas chamber 34 into which fluid vaporized, a port 38 for flowing gas into gas chamber 34, wherein the vapour evaporated from fluid chamber mixes with the gas, and a port 39 for discharging from gas chamber 34 the gas and the vapour mixed therewith and evaporated from the fluid chamber. Both ports 38, 39 and their shut-off elements 36, 37 are arranged such that they are located above the fluid level when vaporizing apparatus is tilted from the normal operating position of the apparatus by more than 45 DEG in any direction. <IMAGE>
