<p>A landing gear (5) for an aircraft (1) has a multi-wheeled truck (14) that is swung by a main prop (7) from a stowed position to a lowered position below the aircraft (1). The truck (14) is pivotably connected to the lower end of the main prop (7). When the gear is lowered, at least one rear prop (60) extends between the upper end of the main prop (7) and an aft region of the wheel truck (14). Both the main (7) and rear (60) props are telescoping members. However, the rear prop (60) is releasably lockable to hold a certain fixed length when the aircraft (1) is on the ground, so as to prevent pivoting movement of the wheel truck (14) relative to the main prop (7). This impedes the ability of the aircraft to tip back when its center of gravity shifts aft during unloading. <IMAGE></p> |
