[Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A motor-driven gang-lawnmower comprises a three-wheeled tractor Fig.( 1) supporting three power-driven motor units 200, 201, 202 mounted one in front of each wheel, the two front units being pivotally interconnected by a yoke 160, 164 (Fig. 9) and suspended by chains 82, 83 from arms 80, 81 on the tractor whereby they can float to accommodate ground-irregularities. Each mower-unit comprises a frame formed of end-plates 203 'interconnected by crossmembers 204 and a combined bed-bar and ledger blade 205. The member 205 is a triangular prismatic box-section tube formed by bending and then welding sheet-metal and includes an upturned front edge 211 to which is matellurgically bonded a strip of tungsten carbide. The reel-knife 221 has bearings 219 carried by plates 208 which are pivoted to the end-plates 203 and suspended by threaded rods 229 from the bentover upper edges 225 of the end-plates. A spring 233 interposed between the bearing- support 230 and an adjustable abutment 227, 228 on the rod 229 provides a yieldable support for each end of the reel. Each mower-unit has a full-width arcuate skid 212 pivoted to it and is adjustable relative to the ground by a rod 214 selectively engageable in holes 216 in a fixed detentplate 215 secured to the middle of one of the cross-tubes 204. The rod 214 is in two inter-threaded parts so as to provide also a fine-adjustment. The skid 212 is cut away obliquely at its ends 216 to prevent digging- in of the mower units in turning. |
