Improvements in longitudinal measurement devices for incorporation into the corresponding machine. They consist of attaching a roller 3 to the reading head 1 and a roller 6 to the follower unit 7, perpendicular to one another and provided on the faces facing one another with cylindrical grooves 4 and 5, between which there runs a ball or sphere 8 of diameter less than or equal to the grooves, the roller 3 being permanently pressed against the roller 6 with the interposition of the ball 8 by means of a spring 9 which permits a relative displacement between these elements of the order of 1.5 mm, providing great facility in mounting the measuring device formed by such elements. The preferred application of said devices is in machine tools. <IMAGE>
