At each transfer station in the railway network a conveyor shelf store (3) extends parallel to the rail track (1) at a length corresp to the max. length of the goods train. In the goods wagons (4) similar conveyor shelf stores (5) are provided. In the alley between the rail track and the stationary conveyor shelf store a movable loading machine (7) is provided. Goods delivered by road vehicles are placed on pallets in the stationary store, forming unit loads of a specific format, viz. 2.4 x 2.4 m ., and are assembled for specific destinations. A central computer with terminals at each discharge station records the delivered goods. Based on this recording, a place is reserved for each unit load in the stationary store, and one in a goods train bound for the destination station. A place is also reserved in the stationary conveyor shelf store at the destination station. USE/ADVANTAGE - Rational transport combining rail and road, reducing number of transfers and time required.
