A utilization system of heavy water heat in a nuclear reactor includes a heavy water cooling system and a low temperature Rankine cycle system for heat recovering. The low temperature Rankine cycle system has an expansion machine for expanding a low boiling point medium to provide work, a condenser for cooling and condensing the low boiling point medium after expanded in the expansion machine as such, and a low boiling point medium circulation pump for circulating the low boiling point medium so condensed, whereby it receives heat from the heat exchanger of the heavy water cooling system for evaparating it. The heavy water cooling system further includes a refrigeration cycle system provided on the downstream side of said low temperature Rankine cycle system for cooling air in a pressure containment vessel of said nuclear reactor . The refrigeration cycle system is singly operated when the heavy water cooling system or the low temperature Rankine cycle system has any trouble.
