[Also in Division D2] Pressure-sensitive copying material (see Division D2) comprises a transfer-inducing layer of ethylene polymer of which a major part is in the form of particles, but a minor proportion in the dissolved state. The solvent for the polyethylene may be a liquid aliphatic hydrocarbon of 4 to 12 carbon atoms, a liquid aliphatic chlorinated hydrocarbon of 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a fatty alcohol of 6 to 18 carbon atoms used with water as a dispersing agent. The ethylene polymer may be a copolymer, e.g. with a vinyl ester or ether, or a mixture of polyethylene with such a copolymer. In the Examples: (I) polyethylene is dissolved in carbon tetrachloride, applied by a heated application roller and cooled to gel it, excess of polyethylene is removed by a doctor, and of solvent by evaporation: (II) the layer comprises two polyethylenes of different molecular weights and benzine 110/140; (III) the layer comprises the same two polyethylenes as in Example II and trichloroethylene; (IV) the layer comprises an aliphatic carboxyl-containing hydrocarbon compound, polyethylene and trichlorethylene.</p> |
